Multiverse Asheville Game Central Station on Merrimon
Asheville’s top organization of gaming and general geekery, Multiverse Asheville, put together an every-other-Wednesday event, called Game Central Station, where gamers can join together to play all of their favorite, and often classic games. The theme and featured game changes for each event, but expect the likes of speed-running, timed point gathering, four player battles, shoot-em-ups and more!
This event is geared toward those gamers aged 18 and up, but if you are younger and have the skills, bring it!

Canyon Creek Bluegrass Show on Merrimon
Members of Emmy Award Winning Steep Canyon Rangers, Town Mountain and Larry Keel, join forces for a bluegrass show that joyously takes things up a notch. These old friends play The Hop every 6 months or so and there is no denying how much fun they and everyone in attendance has. We hope you get to enjoy this show as much as we do!

The Resonant Rogues Show on Merrimon
New Asheville duo, The Resonant Rogues, featuring Sparrow Pants on viola, saw, accordion and banjo and Keith Smith on Guitar, will be making their debut at The Hop on May 7th from 6:30-7:30pm! If in the past you’ve enjoyed such shows as the Sugarfoot Serenaders, Big Nasty Jazz Band and The Runaway Circus, you’ll love this!

Geek Out at the UNC Asheville Sherrill Center
GeekOut is Western North Carolina’s annual popular arts convention: a celebration of film, art, costuming, comics, and animation in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains—home of The Hunger Games! The one-day show draws fans from across the Southeast, and features multiple tracks of programming, panels, and gaming, a full performance schedule, celebrity guests, and an exhibition hall for vendors and artists.
GeekOut 2013 will be held May 4 at the Sherrill Convention Center at the UNCA campus, and a general admission badge will cost $10.
This multi-genre popular arts convention features:
- Special guests
- Our exhibitor hall, with vendors from faraway lands
- Artist Alley, featuring local and semi-local illustration art
- 3 days of tabletop and RPG gaming
- Video gaming tournaments and open gaming
- Film screenings
- Expert panels on popular subjects
- Legendary movie and TV cars
- Costumed characters (costumes encouraged!)
- Concerts, fight demonstrations, and live performances
- KidzCon, a complete track area specifically dedicated to activities for fans ages 4-12
- Geektastic: A Burlesque Revue (May 3; 18+ only)
The Sherrill Convention Center will open at 10 AM Saturday, with programming running until 6 PM. We don’t stop then, though – official after-convention events at Asheville’s hottest nightspots will carry the fun into the morning hours!
